CBD Tincture Oil For Pain Management: Leverage The Optimum Benefits

Cannabidiol is an extract of a hemp plant that comes with countless health benefits for mental and physical health. The plus point is that being an extract of a hemp plant, it does not contain any intoxicating properties, which means it does not lead to high or causes any major side effects to health commonly associated with hemp plants. Here is what we know so far about how we can use CBD tincture oil for pain management.

Without the intoxicating properties of its cousin delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), Cannabidiol (CBD) can provide the human body with tons of health benefits. When we consume CBD, it reacts with receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which plays a significant role in signaling body functions, from emotional responses to motor control to energy balance.

For the last decades, researchers have tested CBD’s efficacy as an analgesic or painkiller, and the results are promising.

CBD Tincture Oil For Pain Management

Currently, no CBD-based medication is approved as a painkiller in the U.S. except the Epidiolex (used for rare forms of Epilepsy). Epidiolex is the only CBD medicine approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Meanwhile, several countries have approved CBD to treat specific conditions. For example, the U.K. approved it for multiple sclerosis, and Canada approved it for cancer pain.

Ongoing research suggests CBD tincture oil for pain management and medical aid conditions, including arthritis and Fibromyalgia, at varying doses. Some pain may not be treatable by CBD alone, but it can help when paired with THC or other effective medications. According to a recent survey, 60% of the people who use CBD products do so for its pain-relieving effects.

CBD For Chronic Pain Relief

Any pain lasting longer than several months is defined as chronic pain. Studies suggest CBD, along with THC, to be an effective pain reliever for various chronic conditions. In clinical trials, Sativex, a spray with equal parts CBD and THC, proved remarkably successful as an analgesic for cancer-related pain. The spray, also used for multiple sclerosis-related pain, is approved in Canada to treat cancer pain and is undergoing trials for approval and use in the U.S.

In a 2019 study, Sativex was an effective and well-tolerated add-on treatment for patients with severe chronic pain popping up from various health ailments. The study identified three types of pain: nociceptive (affecting body tissue), neuropathic (affecting nerves), and Mixed pain. Sativex helped treat all three kinds of pain, especially neuropathic pain. An earlier study also found CBD effective in chronic pain relief for conditions like multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury.

CBD For Arthritis Pain Relief

Arthritis is a broad term that includes hundreds of joint-related pains and conditions. However, some common symptoms include joint stiffness, swelling, pain, etc. CBD possesses anti-inflammatory properties, visible in both animal and preclinical trials, and works well for arthritis treatment.

During a trial conducted in 2016, focused on patients with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease known to cause inflammation in the joints and other affected areas, researchers found Sativex (CBD infused medicine) significantly improved participants’ pain during movement, pain at rest, and quality of sleep. No adverse reactions were reported.

In 2018, researchers tested the efficacy of topical CBD gel on participants with osteoarthritis-related knee pain over 12 weeks. Participants used 250 milligrams or 500 milligrams CBD, divided into two daily doses. The results obtained in the trials were outstanding. The participants who applied 250 milligrams of CBD daily experienced significant improvement.

Meanwhile, a trial performed in 2019 suggests a mix of CBD and THC may prove beneficial for people with Fibromyalgia, a type of arthritis that leads to whole-body pain and fatigue. The study suggests that a mix of CBD and THC performed much better than CBD alone for Arthritis pain relief

CBD Tincture Oil For Cancer Treatment Relief

Research has pointed out CBD as the best possible option for diminishing cancer treatment (chemotherapy) side effects such as pain, vomiting, and lack of appetite. A 2010 study on Cancer treatment relief-related pain stated CBD mixed with THC worked more effectively for pain management. A 2013 study on THC-CBD oral sprays had a similar finding.

CBD For Migraine Pain Relief

CBD alone does not show any robust effect on migraine. But CBD with THC did. A 2017 study indicated that CBD and THC could lead to less acute pain (55%). A two-phase trial was conducted where a combination of two compounds was given to some participants. One compound contained 9% CBD and almost no THC, while the other contained 19% THC.

There was no such effect on pain reported when the CBD value of 100 mg was given to participants. But when the doses were increased to 200 mg, acute pain fell by 55%.

On the other side, participants who were given the combination of CBD and THC valued at 400 mg reported the frequency of their migraine attacks fell by 40.4%

Side Effects

The use of CBD does not cause significant risks still, but certain side effects are possible, such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Irritability
  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in appetite

Bottom Line

As we have described above, there are countless benefits associated with using CBD tincture oil for pain management, from its anti-inflammatory properties to its widespread availability.

CBD may provide numerous benefits to health and help ease the pain but don’t make CBD your first and only choice for pain relief. If you are someone close to considering using CBD, we recommend you first consider seeing a doctor. Discuss the dos and don’ts in choosing an appropriate product and dose. Let your doctor know if you plan to combine CBD with prescription drugs, as there is a possible negative interaction. CBD might interfere with your bloodstream if you take a blood thinner such as Coumadin. Also, it is known to enhance the strength of some psychiatric medications, which isn’t necessarily a good thing.
